The QDB (Query DataBase) program provides the user a method to export data from the OGWin system to a relational SQL format. Benefits of the export will range from user to user, however, some of the common benefits include: Ad hoc queries, interfacing with other SQL based systems, publishing reports to the web, or changing reports to other formats such as a comma-delimited file. This document provides an overview of the QDB module. Please contact us if you require more detailed information or a demonstration of how QDB can benefit you.

What is it?
QDB is an export tool for OGWin data. The QDB module transforms your data into a relational form and exports it to Microsoft SQL Server. This transformed database is not a simple copy; rather it has been designed for maximum flexibility and ease of use. This allows your data to be accessed by any application that is capable of interfacing with Microsoft SQL Server (7.0 or 2000). Shipped with the QDB module are examples of queries as well as some methods of publishing the results.

Why do I need it?

QDB provides access to the vast majority of OGWin data. Native OGWin data is stored in a proprietary transactional form to facilitate speed, storage and integrity concerns. Prior to the QDB export, only OGWin programs could access this data in a reasonable manner. Now with QDB, you can query your OGWin data for specialized information that is not part of the current OGWin report set. Simply put, the QDB module has reorganized your data as opposed to making a simple copy.

QDB provides a common interface to other systems. Many users wish to have their data integrated with other systems. The flexibility of QDB and the pervasiveness of SQL Server compatible products make this possible. QDB can even be scheduled to run at night in the backround. This can replace the costly manual process of custom data extraction or the hand keying of Excel files.

QDB’s overall ease of use. Since the data is in a relational format on a popular SQL server, a variety of third-party products can be used to access your data including Crystal Reports, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel or anything else that can interface with Microsoft SQL Server.
